Our Team's Theme

Team 5: Pink - PTSD/Vets

EDITOR: Santiago Lyon

In past EAW's, I've seen some amazing stories on local veterans or active duty troops. However, there hasn't been a Team, who has dedicated their entire theme to the project. We'll be the first. With that said, we are looking into several different stories. For instance, we are exploring Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in returning combat vets, physical disabilities, combat widows and more. It's going to be an intense topic, but I think a very worthy one.

More to come...

  1. Thank you, Stacy,

What resources/websites/blogs/etc. should we study/look at in order to have some background information for the subject matter at hand?

As a team, is there a direction that we will need to keep in mind within individual stories?

How do you recommend that we prepare for covering these stories?

    Regards,

    Lung.

  2. This sounds very exciting. What a great opportunity. Lung you should watch the Marlboro Marine by Luis Sinco on Mediastorm's website...

Also a friend of mine The Virginian-Pilot, Amanda Lucier, is working on a weekly blog titled "While you were gone," and it's dedicated to milestones or moments that families experience while their loved ones are deployed. It's weekly and just stills but it provides a lot of insight to military families...

    Hope this helps!

  3. Rachel, thank you for sharing that info! :)

Stacy, I look forward to this. As a daughter of a Vietnam Veteran who has PTSD and a girlfriend of a Navy sailor who is currently underway, I find this hitting close to home. Let's see what a whole team can create with this powerful theme!

this is an amazing portrait of a mother whose son is now in prison for an attempted murder while suffering PTSD. So amazing - you have to see it.

  7. Amazing. Can't wait to start photographing and couldn't think of a more important topic to work on while in the USA. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

  8. Thanks Stacy. Let us know if there's anything else we can do to prep for this.

I do have one question. Would we be following one person's story as a team, or each have separate people we need to follow?

    thanks
